Jewelry Care
Our pieces mix precious metals with natural, organic elements, and each material has its own needs. The golden rule remains “Last On, First Off.”
Everyday Habits
- Put on last, take off first: apply perfume, lotion, hair products and cosmetics before wearing your jewelry.
- Take it off before sleeping, bathing, swimming, exercising, cleaning, gardening or using hand sanitiser.
- Avoid impact: remove jewelry before heavy lifting, sport or manual work; corals, beads and moissanite mountings can chip under a knock.
- Wear in rotation: giving delicate and woven pieces days off extends their life.
Care by Material
| Material | Do | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| 18k solid gold | Wipe with a soft cloth. Clean occasionally in warm water with a drop of mild soap and a soft brush; pat dry. | Chlorine, bleach and abrasive cleaners. |
| 925 sterling silver | Polish with a microfibre cloth. Store in the pouch, away from air and humidity. | Rough tissue, toothpaste or harsh dips. |
| Gold-plated and gold-filled | Wipe dry with a soft cloth after each wear. Keep dry. | Perfume, lotion, saltwater, sweat, polishing compounds and water soaking. |
| Stainless steel and titanium | Warm soapy water and a soft cloth; dry thoroughly. | Prolonged exposure to strong chemicals. |
| Moissanite | Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush behind the stone; dry with a lint-free cloth. | Heavy knocks on hard surfaces; greasy lotions that dull the stone. |
| Real corals and organic beads | Wipe gently with a dry, soft cloth. A barely damp cloth is acceptable, then dry at once. | Soaking, acids (lemon, vinegar), perfume, ultrasonic or steam cleaners, and sunlight for long periods. |
| Imitation pearls and woven fabric | Keep dry. Dab lightly with a dry cloth. If damp, air-dry flat away from heat. | Sprays, body oils, household cleaners, washing, wringing and heat. |
Storing & Travelling
- Store each piece flat in its velvet pouch, separate from other jewelry so metals do not scratch each other.
- Keep out of direct sun, heat and humid bathrooms. Do not fold woven pieces tightly.
- Travel with the piece in its pouch inside the box or a padded case; never leave jewelry in a hot car or checked luggage.
Long-Term Care
Beaded and strung pieces benefit from a professional check about once a year if worn often. We offer lifetime maintenance, restringing and re-polishing for a nominal fee; email info@orvellia.org with clear photos and your order number for an estimate. Repairs by third-party jewelers are not covered by warranty.
Quick reference — Last On, First Off: perfume first, jewelry last. Jewelry off before you sleep, shower or swim. Flat in the velvet pouch, always.
